Freedom and justice did exist. In some places much more long ago than others. But when we talk, and we think about liberating our nations, our people and with this ourselves we have to acknowledge that our ancestors, with their good and faults, did enjoy freedom, independence and so on. We were invaded, massacred, rip off our culture and true and real traditions (if they leave some the leave the less good or the bad in case they do) and then, with the occupation of our nations, more open or less open the process of globalizing-modernizing the people and with that the oblivion of our real and true identities, our ways, our rights and our pride... till the present.
To take the irish case, that is well documented in this regard: when the english came and invade, how the did it, the genocide before the XX century, the repression of the Irish National Revolution fought by the Revolutionary Patriots of that time, patriots that stroke for freedom and justice for all under the Irish Republic, the repression of the so-call Free State (free of what, of Irish Republicanism?) and the brits of the liberator Irish Republican Movement in all the stages of the struggle till the fresh raids in Belfast today.
The Irish People did govern Ireland. Not now, and for many centuries. But the did, and Erin was free and proud, and the Irish give themselves to put a very good example the Brehon laws, much better than most of the legal system today and for sure something to study and learn from for the future, starting with Irish National Proclamation of 1916 as the document to start from.
